Deep in the Gut of Texas

Amy here again! I found this blog through Twitter, and wanted to share today's entry with you because Betsy and I agree that Society Bakery totally ROCKS THE PARTY!!!! Peanut Butter Chocolate is my personal fave. Get out there and try them for yourself. You WILL NOT be disappointed. And give me a call if you need a friend to tag along. I have a Living Social deal for Society. :-)

Catching up

Wow....it's been a loooooonnnggg time since we updated.

Here's a look at some pics from my cell phone from the last few months - food related, of course. Ha!

In July, we had a scrapbooking party/NOLA reunion at Christa's house. I brought bruschetta.
I ate while everyone else scrapbooked, and this was my plate. Everything was deliciousness. In August, we celebrated Betsy's birthday at the Catfish Plantation in Waxahachie.
We celebrated a little early in October, and I ordered my mom's birthday cake from Society Bakery - one of the PD's faves!
In November, I found this at Super Target, and it was really good! I bought it especially for a certain little 5 year old who came with his Daddy for a quick visit.
And I was so jealous of those cool PJs.
Honeycrisp apples - one of the best things about fall!
My plate from the annual Thanksgiving snack day at my job. Eating is part of being Baptist - it's in the bylaws.
I was asked to bring something pumpkin to Thanksgiving, so I made pumpkin roll. And then when my adopted cousin wasn't able to join us, I had to send some to her or else my cousin, her roommate, wouldn't have a ride home.
Absolute love in a cute little dish. Too bad they didn't pay their bills or their employees. So sad.
Chuy's and Elvis in the holiday spirit.
My new favorite burger place - I spotted this about a block from work, and was ecstatic! Waiting for them to open was torture.
Last week, we had a couple of snow days where travel was treacherous and should only have been done when absolutely necessary. Well, clearly, this was necessary.

Hope you've had some exciting food moments over the last few months!

Reunited and it feels so good!

Tomorrow night, we are gathering for a reunion and scrapbooking gathering in honor of our NOLA trip. Since I (Amy) don't scrapbook, I will be attending for the food and fellowship. Ha!

In true Baptist fashion, everyone is bringing a dish for a small scale, Sunday evening covered dish dinner. When my daddy was pastor @ Meadowbrook Baptist church, these gatherings were known as Love Feasts. Just a bit of trivia for you - BONUS!!
Can you guess what I am bringing?

Welcome!

Betsy and I are so happy to welcome you to our blog. We are excited about this joint venture where we will be sharing our adventures in all things food-related. We plan on trying new places and offering our opinions on their fare, as well as our faves of the tried and true places we love to go to on a regular basis. (P.S. We are calling ourselves The PDs - short for Preachers' Daughters.)

I'll start....

Right now we are on vacation in New Orleans, and will be posting about our favorite treats and eats from this wonderful place.

Last night we had dinner at Mulates and while our dinner wasn't anything to write about - they were having a bad night - I must tell you about the Butter Pecan Pie. O.M.G.....so sinfully delicious! It tasted like a warm praline. We also sampled the Key Lime Pie, which was pretty delicious too. My parents recommended this place to us for the food and the atmosphere. We enjoyed watching folks dance to the Cajun music the band played, and the foreigners who awkwardly tried to dance and sing along to Lousiana Saturday Night. Why are foreigners so awkward? Do they think the same of us when we visit their countries?

Today we visited 2 plantations, one being Oak Alley. Isn't this gorgeous??

They are known for their Mint Juleps, and since we had never tried one, we all decided to go for it. I tried the Bourbon Twist, which is a Mint Julep with a splash of lemonade. It was pretty good. Betsy and Christa tried the non-alcoholic Mint Juleps, and thought they were very sweet. Cheers!
We may venture out to Cafe Du Monde for beignets tonight as a night cap. Yummo.....

Stay tuned for more....and thanks again for checking us out. Show us some "Follow" love!
